Opinione:
Romanzo d’esordio dello scrittore canadese Derek Künsken, si presenta come una versione space opera di Ocean’s Eleven. Se da una lato questo poteva essere un indizio di originalità, dall’altro il timore che il romanzo fosse troppo lontano dal genere era forte.
Fortunatamente l’opera si è rivelata un piacevole sorpresa; l’idea della grande “truffa” che costituisce la trama principale è orientata alla space opera classica, mentre il romanzo e ricco di spunti HardSF e Postumani, con un tocco di fantascienza umanistica.
Il risultato è una space opera varia ed originale, che scorre senza cali di tensione e riesce ad alternare parti speculative in ambito scientifico e socio-culturale.
Ogni parte si integra senza problemi ed è ben bilanciata, mentre la storia della grande truffa serve da Trait d’union è conferisce dinamicità al tutto.
Consigliato a chi cerca una buona HardSF che si focalizza più sulle speculazioni che su personaggi ed azione.
Il romanzo è stato finalista al premio Locus per il miglior romanzo d’esordio e all’Aurora Award (SyFy Canadese) nel 2019.
